Fan Hongwei, a former deputy director of Changzhi’s Public Security Bureau and the head of traffic police detachment, has been dismissed from his positions and is awaiting further investigation after a post online showed eight different identification cards with seven different names linked back to him. The local authorities are still investigating whether these eight IDs are connected to corruption, according to China Daily:
On April 15, a person who claimed to be “a policeman from Changzhi public security bureau” posted an article in a popular online forum, saying that while Fan worked as police director in several counties he got large amounts of money by illegal means.
The article said Fan got eight false ID cards in the counties to transfer and hide the money, then canceled and deleted the ID cards after he finished the money transfers.
In 2013, a former deputy bank chief named Gong Aiai who illegally owned four different IDs was sentenced to prison for three years by court in Shaanxi province. Four other police officers were also arrested for helping Gong forge the identities.
