Six people, including three children, were killed when a man reportedly plowed his car into a crowd of roadside pedestrians in Fuzhou this morning, Xinhua reports.
Police in Qingshi Town received a report around 11:19 a.m. that the man ran his vehicle into a group of schoolchildren and their parents in what appeared to be an intentional act, Xinhua said.
SCMP relays from the Southeast Express that the 37-year-old man was first believed to have strapped a petrol can to his body and was detained by the local anti-bomb squad.
After ramming into the pedestrians and injuring over a dozen people, the man fled the scene but was apprehended by police, according to the Post.
The victims included children who were on their way home from school. Several reportedly died after being rushed to the Minhou County No 2 Hospital.
An internet user named Aling claimed three members of a single family had been killed, with only one surviving.
The injured were sent to a hospital in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province.
The driver was reportedly upset that his wife wanted to divorce him, theExpress cited the source as saying.
