Three people were killed and 79 more injured yesterday during an attack involving explosives and knife-wielding assailants outside of the largest railway station in Urumqi, Xinjiang.
Xinhua reported last night that the assailants armed with knives attacked people and set off the explosives shortly after 7 p.m. at the exit of Urumqi South railway stain, just after a train arrived from Chengdu.
The blast was centered around luggage left on the ground between the exit and a public bus stop, witnesses told Xinhua.
“The blast was powerful. A man at a nearby hotel said he thought it was an earthquake,” the report added.
Details are still trickling in on the attack and suspects involved. We’ll keep updating as they come.
