Two people were confirmed dead and four more were injured after a residential building collapsed in Shanghai’s Hongkou district early this morning, according to Xinhua.
The incident happened around 4:47 a.m. this morning at an old complex on 240 Xingang Road. At the time of Xinhua’s reporting, around 8:30 a.m., the Shanghai Fire Bureau managed to rescue five people from the scene, but rescue work is still in progress.
Just last month, a five-story apartment building in nearby Zhejiang province suddenly collapsed, killing at least one person and burying several more. A nearby resident was cited by local media as saying that tenet ants had reported cracks in the building that were never fixed.
