Throngs of middle-aged nude sunbathers let it all hang out over the Labor Day weekend at Sanya’s Dadonghai beach despite authorities’ recent attempts to ban the years-long tradition, because fuck rules and pants.
Back in 2010, What’s on Sanya first reported on the phenomenon when hundreds of nude sunbathers, usually men over 40, began showing up to the beach and camping out for the entire day, lounging, chatting and playing cards. Complaints started rolling in from various, non-nude beach-goers, and a divide between the clothed and unclothed eventually led authorities to ban the activity.
In February, the authorities announced plans to enforce the long-standing notice, and urban management officers and even camo-clad cops were seen walking through the sand handing out warnings to those hardly dressed.
“We have talked with them many times, but they seemed reluctant to change. We had to seek help from local police as we don’t have the power to ban nudists,” Xia Wanfeng, a spokeswoman for the Sanya City Administration law-enforcement bureau, had told SCMP.
The threats apparently weren’t enough to keep these nudists from having one more traipse through the beach with sand between their toes and the breeze combing their man-bits, undermining the system by donning swimsuit bottoms and simply letting them dangle freely below their wrinkled parts.
