A 94-year-old lady in Taiwan managed to save herself from being kidnapped after she annoyed her abductor so much with her constant nags and complaints that she was let go.
According to the Global Times, the victim, surnamed Chou, was taken into a vehicle near her home in Taipei city by a kidnapper who demanded NT$ 7 million from family members for her release.
Chou’s family apparently gave a ‘lukewarm response’ to his demands, saying “She is in old age. You’d better take good care of her. You’ll have enough trouble if something bad happened to her.”
Chou likewise seemed less than threatened by the man’s hostage attempt. After giving him false information, the elderly woman drove her kidnapper to the brink of madness with her incessant complaints about illnesses and pain. He even stopped at a pharmacy to buy her medicine.
The woman further took it upon herself to chime in on her kidnapper’s life choices. “This is not the right way to earn money,” Chou said. “You still have a long way to go, but I do not have much left.”
The suspect was finally detained when Chou gave her kidnapper the slip at a gas station where she’d stopped to use the bathroom. He told cops that he needed the money to pay a business debt.
