Two students from a university in Shanghai’s Songjiang district are being held on suspicion of hacking their school’s website and altering the records of more than 200 students’ morning run performances.
Shanghai Daily reports that the suspects, surnamed Chen and Zhang, began breaking into the system and changing their own scores in December last year because of their low attendance in the morning P.E. class.
After students heard about their success, others trying to get out of physical education performance turned to the pair for help. They charged 15 yuan to 21 yuan for each morning run, and by the end of the stunt, the two racked up more than 80,000 yuan from students.
The school discovered the false records in March and reported it to police, who arrested Chen and Zhang.
