Bubba’s BBQ-off: The fourth annual Bubba’s BBQ cook-off kicks off on May 24, so head on down and watch pros and laymen alike test their prowess putting flame to sausage, chicken, pork rib, beef, best pulled/processed meat and mystery meat (not this kind we imagine). The winner will be determined by a panel of judges, including yours truly, so look for a bobble-headed “Wasian” guy. Not just a spectator sport, there’ll also be plenty of BBQ, beer and live music by Shanghai New Grasslands, to tide you over.

Mother’s Day at Urban Thai 2: Looks like we accidentally missed one on our Mother’s Day meal countdown. Chefs in the City: Around 40 seats are still available for the second Chefs in the City charity dinner on June 5 at Acqua e Farina. So RSVP to [email protected] and enjoy a luscious Italian feast (and copious Prosecco) prepped by the finest Italian chefs in town. This year’s roster of chefs entails Riccardo Messina of Acqua e Farina Shanghai; Marco Barbieri of Da Marco; Corrado Michelazzo of 10 Corso Como Shanghai; Giuseppe Tino of Gaia 2 Shanghai; Marco Busatti of Isola Shanghai; David Bassan of Maison Pourcel Shanghai. After Acqua e Farina, the event will make its way to Maison Pourcel, Isola, Da Marco and finally Gaia 2. At the end of the year, net proceeds will go to the Cancer Recovery Center.
