Four people were detained after that whole debacle in Nanjing where a piece of radioactive iridium-192 went missing for a few days and any number people could have been exposed to cell-damaging radiation.
The iridium-192 radioactive source went missing on Wednesday when workers for the Tianjin Hongdi Engineering Test Development Co. Ltd. were carrying out tests in the yard of a SINOPEC construction company and apparently misplaced the substance.
The loss wasn’t reported to the police until Thursday night, at which point, officers and environmental departments joined forces to find the missing piece. It was retrieved late Saturday afternoon, seemingly the first time the whole thing was announced to the public.
“Police detained four workers with the Hongdi company Saturday. They had violated working regulations and storage rules, which led to the missing of the source, police said,” Xinhua said.
No casualties by exposure to the radioactive source have been reported, and no one was “thought” to have been exposed to it.
