A recent report by the Guangzhou Daily warns video game developers that, in addition to previous restrictions against harming the “image of China” and pornography, video games sold in the mainland must be completely, utterly bikini-free.
The Daily says that, “Game characters wearing bikinis or shorts are prohibited.” Shorts, really? Apparently all games must take place in wintertime. The report goes further to say that, “Exposing sensitive parts of the body is not allowed,” so perhaps Mainland China’s XBox games will feature significantly more turtle-necks and baggy sweat pants than their international versions.
On top of that, any “Bodily touching between men and women in games is completely prohibited,” so maybe they’ll stick to flag football and nods of approval. Funnily enough, wild and sadistic violence still seems to be A-Ok, as long as everyone is fully clothed and not touching each other. “Sensitive parts of the body” are apparently meant to be shot, not seen, in China’s video games.
