Yesterday afternoon a large factory in Bolue county, Guangdong, gleefully spat a massive load of chemicals into a local river. Residents noticed quickly, as their local waterway shifted from its normally hazy-blue-brown into a biblical-plaguey blood red.
Boluo Eco-environmental protection agency staff and Yuanzhou county officials hurried to the scene after they received photos from a local resident. From a preliminary investigation, it appears as though a printing plant may have illegally discharged its waste products, which would explain the water’s rich hues.
In case the blood red was too ominous, the factory also spilt out a horrifying neon-blue chemical that tainted water further downstream.
The plant has been shut down while police investigate, and other facilities on the river have been ordered to cease work as well.
