Millions of yuan in cash in a bank vault in Bijing city, Guizhou province, was suddenly replaced with religious spirit money after a clerk decided to make a half-assed attempt at robbing the bank where he worked. Police investigated and, because the clerk left the bank’s cameras rolling, he was caught pretty much immediately.
Zhang worked as a cashier and vault manager in the bank, and got the idea to swap out the cash after he lost 1.6 million yuan in futures dealing. Zhang apparently planned to return the money when he had earned that much in the market, but that’s not really how life works.
Zhang admitted the crime when he was arrested, and was clearly spotted on the bank’s security cameras, below.
