Get your culture load for free this weekend, as 120 Shanghai museums will be open to the public free of charge (or with discounted tickets) from May 17 to May 19 for International Museum Day.
Most of the museums offer free access to their exhibitions, others have prepared special programs and some are even open until 9.00 p.m. Shanghai doesn’t really have a “Night of the Museums” like museums in Europe organize, but you still get a lot of time to visit from May 17 – May 19.
You get free access to important museums like the newly open Long Museum West Bund or the very soon to open (on Saturday) Yuz Museum, located in the same area, that have huge art collections.
You should also visit the Shanghai Powerstation of Art for the Close Up Exhibition on the works of French artist JR opening tomorrow evening.
More open museums are listed here.
And here’s a list of other art exhibitions worth visiting around town.
This year’s event theme is “Museum collections make connections”, so go out there and connect with thousands of Chinese museum goers!
