A pregnant woman gave birth to a healthy child right after being hit by a car while jaywalking in Shanghai’s Jiading district on Monday.
The woman, 35 weeks pregnant, was on her way home from a prenatal check and walking in the middle of Baiyun Road around 9:50 a.m. when a car hit her from behind. Surveillance footage showed her being knocked into the air and on the ground.
The mother had lost consciousness after impact and was rushed to the hospital, where she’d ended up undergoing a c-section. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 2.5 kilograms, Shanghai Daily reports.
The woman woke the next day and is still in the hospital under watch.
In a similar case from earlier this year, a pregnant woman in Xiamen, Fujian province who was riding on the back of a motorcycle that was hit by a truck gave birth just before dying. The woman and her husband were reportedly on their way to the hospital for a check-up when a truck driver collided with the motorcycle, killing both of them. Upon impact, the baby was pushed out from the woman’s body and survived.
