A man managed to catch a one-year-old infant with his bare hands after the child fell from the second-floor window of a residential building in Zhongshan, Guangzhou province on May 18, CCTV channel 13 reported.
The infant had been left alone by his mother and climbed to the window to look for her, according to the report.
At the same time, a resident surnamed Li had been seeking shelter from the rain when he spotted the child by the window on the second floor of a building opposite to him.
He stood in the middle of the street in hopes that he could catch the child in case the worst happened.
A few other bystanders also tried to help by pulling over whatever was available for cushioning below the window. As soon as the infant slipped and fell, Li bound forward and swiftly caught him with the help of another resident surnamed Hu.
The video, posted to CCTV, has garnered over 2,500 netizen comments. We’ve translated some of the reactions as follows:
“Please do not leave your child alone at home!”
“We should give a thumb up for the savers, but at the same time we should condemn the neglecting mother.”
“Hope the parents won’t make the same mistake again.”
“I’m glad to see this and I feel more optimistic about our society.”
“We do have Good Samaritans around us!’
“I watched it many times and I couldn’t help crying.”
“The mother is an asshole.”
“In America, the mother would go to jail.”
“They [the helpers] are the most lovely people! “
No doubt, this one-year-old tot is as lucky as the Hubei toddler who was saved after being spotted dangling out of 7th floor window.
