The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association, an established group that’s worked with children in Hong Kong since 1936, has been accused of “siding with sexual minorities” and “brainwashing” children since it began offering counsel sessions to young people struggling with their sexuality, SCMP reports.
According to the report, the Justice Alliance, a conservative group headed by parent-activist Leticia Lee See-yi, criticized the counseling service along with the association’s plan to take part in a pro-gay-rights event next month.
“We question why they would show blatant support to sexual minorities rights groups,” said Lee, adding that she had sought talks with the association and the Family Planning Association – which she says publishes booklets advocating same-sex marriage. “They are [saying] being gay is fine. It’s not fair to brainwash impressionable children.”
She also accused the two bodies of not being transparent in their use of government funds.
Chinese University Professor Carmen Chan also condemned the association for providing “outdated, ungrounded, unsafe and incomplete information” by saying that people are born gay.
Brian Leung with the Big Love Alliance seemed to brush off the Lee’s comments that he said were merely “playing up fear of the unknown”.
“We are talking about a reputable, long-standing NGO, who have been caring for the underprivileged and minorities for years,” he said. “The counseling they provide … is one of a kind.”
A spokeswoman for the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association decided to address the lesser wrongheaded of Lee’s claims, saying that the counsel service was funded independently and that its support for next month’s Pink Dot event didn’t involve any money.
Lee’s been involved in the Parents’ Association since 2007, and her outspoken rants are hardly a new thing.
She once opposed a motion calling for public consultation on legislation that would outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation, and she proudly touts a number of bylines on the website for an anti-gay religious group called Society for Truth and Light.
Another “loving” Christian rearing her ugly head, so to speak. We can’t help but hear this woman’s comments being screamed out in the same voice as the God Warrior.
