At least 15 people died and five are still unaccounted for following the massive rainstorms that hit Guangdong province and neighboring Guangxi since Wednesday, Xinhua reports.
The rainstorms led to heavy flooding, collapsed houses and mud flows in Guanghzou, Zhaoqing and Qingyuan. Downpours of this proportion are said to occur once every 100 years.
Since Wednesday, the storms have been estimated to have affected 800,000 people and led to the collapse of nearly 3,000 houses. Over 60,000 people had to make an emergency evacuation from the region.
