A total of 86 planes flew a 7,000-person Chinese tour group to California this past Monday in what’s being called the largest tourist group from China to America ever.
For their week-long visit, the group has settled into 26 hotels across L.A. and taken up some 160 tour buses for sightseeing. The tourists are reportedly dropping a daily average of 2,500 USD each, four times the average for Chinese tourists. It might’ve been the biggest Chinese tour group ever assembled, if not for the 400 would-be members who were denied visas.
Oh, and the group marched around the streets waving the 5-star spangled banner while singing “March of the Volunteers” in what some have gleefully described as an act of “declaring sovereignty“.
The people of Anaheim were quick to welcome their new Chinese overlords and their pockets o’ renminbi, even rolling out the red carpet for a massive banquet held in the Anaheim Convention Center, tuhao-style.
