Three people, including a police officer, were killed when a man carrying a fruit knife began attacking passersby at a market in downtown Fuzhou, Fujian province on Tuesday evening.
The assailant, wielding a 20-centimeter-long blade, stabbed a man inside the Yonghui Supermarket, then ran outside and stabbed two bystanders on the street, SCMP reports.
Yesterday, two people were confirmed dead and one injured. Today, APA said that the death toll reached three when the injured person died in the hospital late yesterday.
Among the fatalities were a 56-year-old police officer and a woman in her 40s. The identity of the other person killed hasn’t been disclosed.
The 26-year-old suspect, surnamed Chen, was captured after being tackled down by a mob when he attempted to flee the scene.
Chen told police that he thought he was being followed by someone, so he bought two fruit knives from a supermarket then stabbed the passersby.
In local news, a 15-year-old teenager in Shanghai was stabbed to death yesterday as he was being driven to school on a moped with his father. Shanghai Daily said that the assailant, around 50 years old, used a 5- to 10-centimeter-long knife to stab the teen around 8:00 a.m. on Changning Road. Police believe that the attack was connected to a family dispute.
