A woman was brutally beaten to death by six people in a Shandong McDonald’s outlet on Wednesday night after refusing to give her number to them. According to ABC News, Zhaoyuan police has stated that the perpetrators are from a religious cult called the “All-powerful spirit” that has been collecting numbers in order to recruit new members. The woman, Miss Wu, is in her 20s and has children. While having her dinner she was approached by one of the killers, Zhang, who asked her for her phone number. Upon her refusal, an argument broke out followed by a fight. The people with Zhang, which included three members from his family and two other people, kicked her head while she was on the ground before taking hold of an iron bar and striking her head, to the extent that the iron bar broke.
In a television news interview, after his capture by the police, Zhang said that he hit Miss Wu “because she is a demon, she is an evil spirit”. After her refusal to give them her number, his daughter also chimed in and said that Miss Wu “definitely isn’t anyting good”.
Emergency workers have confirmed that Wu died on the spot. No one was reported to have responded to the fight, though shaky video footage released on Weibo indicated that a man was present at the scene and attempting to intervene but prevented from doing so under violent threats from the six attackers.
One of the attackers is a minor and still can’t be charged as an adult. The rest will be charged with intentional homicide.
