The latest spoof of China’s hit TV show ‘Bite of China,’ ‘Bite of Dorm’ waxes poetic about instant noodles in the same epic style of the Chinese food show. Needless to say, hilarity ensues. Video and dialogue excerpts below:
“Haidian District, Beijing. Warm monsoon winds blow in from the Pacific. The dork is in full growth. Once again, it is the busiest season for university students: exam season. A breakfast heavy in carbohydrates will give their bodies the sucrose they require to revise… The varieties of instant noodle are abundant…. the rich taste and smooth texture of stewed pork and the sweet-and-sour crispiness of pickled vegetables make them an indispensable failsafe for the student.
The sublime encounter between different flavours of instant noodles is more than just a fleeting collision between the taste buds and the nerves – it is a gathering that stretches across all corners of the land… to come to university is to know the true meaning of instant noodles. It is a flavour that percolates through all of the dorm – each room has it, yet each has its own history of a thousand years.
During the long month of exams, the company of the sour-spicy freshness of instant noodles seems to give the insipid days a warmth, a richness, and even a delightfulness. From the changes in one’s life to the movement and flow of instant noodles, from the evolution of preparation methods to the altering course of one’s destiny, the hurried pace of both people and instant noodles has never for a moment rested. But no matter how far they wander, only the taste of dormitory instant noodles remains familiar and fixed in their mind. Like a system oriented on our sense of taste, one head stays stuck in the remote lands of coming days whilst another is forever bound in the university dormitory, locked away in the deepest recesses of our memory.”
