Horror struck last week in a university dorm in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung city. A twenty year-old female student surnamed Wang went to open the window to relieve herself from hot weather and instead found an unwelcome intruder. “I did not expect to run into a flying cockroach,” she recounts of the event.
Wang, unable to sleep for fear that the cockroach might climb into her bed, went into fits of anxiety and decided her lack of roommate entitled her to call the police, who described her as incoherent and emotional to the extent that she could not vocalize what was wrong. Suspecting a hijacker, the police rushed over to her dorm room to find the real, four-centimeter-long culprit.
The dumbfounded police felt that, since part of their duty is helping the psychologically vulnerable, it would only be correct to remove the cockroach. Wang seems to have felt embarrassed they went through such trouble.
Who knows what would have happened had she been around to witness this go down. We’ll be keeping a shoe by the bed for a while.
