A Sichuan sanitation worker and “samaritan of the year” candidate, spent hours searching two tons of garbage to find an old man’s lost 3,500 yuan ($560USD).
The old man, named Deng, lost the money when his wife threw away an old pair of trousers which contained it.
Ecns.cn reports the entire adventure:
They [Deng and his wife] rushed to the dump immediately but the garbage had already been delivered to a waste-compacting station, which hadcompressed the waste into solid mass.
Tang Qijun, who was on duty in the compression station that day, jumped into the dump and started searching for the lost money after he heard about Deng’s story.
Despite the midday heat, along with the stench of garbage and compressed waste, Tang insisted on finding the plastic bagcontained the old man’s trousers.
Tang finally found the bag after six hours of painful research and returned it to Deng.
To thank him, Deng offered some money to Tang. But the righteous sanitation worker politely turned down the offer and went back to his duty.
Tang’s deed is perhaps only surpassed by that airport worker who made waves when he returned a suitcase containing 200,000RMB!
One man’s trash could be his own treasure.
