Police are on the lookout for a foreigner who allegedly beat up a passenger sitting in a cab at the intersection of Wuding and Jiangsu roads in Shanghai’s Changning district on Wednesday night.
The passenger, surnamed Zhang, said he’d gotten in the cab around 11:00 p.m. and was sitting in the front seat while it was stopped at the crossroads when a foreigner on a cycle began attacking him from outside of the window. Zhang said he couldn’t fight back, as the door was blocked by the foreigner.
The driver of the Shanghai Blue Union Taxi Co cab, a man surnamed Fu, said he was about to turn right on West Wuding Road when a cyclist from the opposite side nearly caused an accident, according to Shanghai Daily.
The driver added that the foreigner pointed his finger toward the cab several times, but he kept driving until he hit the red light at the intersection. The cyclist, described as being in his 20s, had followed the taxi there and began beating Zhang before taking off on his bike. Fu tried to chase him but couldn’t catch him.
Zhang was taken to the Jing’an District Central Hospital, where he discovered that his supraorbital ridge was broken and his nasal bone fractured.
Police say that they know the identity of the foreigner and are now investigating the case.
