The very latest in the gripping genre of funny-laowai-speaks-Chinese viral videos, today’s addition distinguishes itself by teaching a spattering of Taiwanese slang.
In “Adoga Doesn’t Teach American English,” Spaniard Jesús enumerates the eponymous “Taiwanese pet phrases.” These include some standard Chinese phrases said in a delightfully (or excruciatingly, depending who you ask) Taiwanese accent, as well as some more uniquely local phrases like calling someone a motorbike (meaning very annoying) or asking “O-bu-OK?” (OK or not).
In another video, however, Jesus addresses the question of why he chose to live in Taiwan and not across the narrow sea, ripping into our beloved Shanghai. Way to hurt the feelings of the Shanghainese people, Jesus.
