Video footage of a toddler sucking on a ciggie as onlookers pass by and laugh has gone viral online as web users have wondered why nobody stepped in to stop the boy.
The video shows a Chinese baby, around the age of two or three, sitting at a table on a public street puffing on a cigarette that appears to be lit. Adults surrounding the boy clearly find it amusing, as they can be seen and heard laughing in the background, and while one woman comes over and chides the boy, nobody is seen trying to take it from him.
When the video was posted on LiveLeak, commenters said it was an attempt to mimic adults’ bad habits. One called the footage “sick”, while another suggested that it was a spectacle meant to attract customers to the table where vendors were perhaps selling goods.
While the story behind this particular footage isn’t clear, it’s not the first of its kind that we’ve seen. In 2011, we posted a video of a two-year-old toddler sucking down a square, and two more videos prior to that.
Gross fact: According to a study by Pediatrics, nine in 10 children in China can identify a cigarette logo.
