We’re all used to being able to book a flight to the other side of the world in only a few clicks, but what about to outer space? It appears that this is soon to become a reality as Chinese e-commerce giant, Taobao, take their platform to new extremes as they provide an exclusive broker service for Dutch Space Expedition Corp’s (SXC).
Whether you’re after a professional mourner, car parts, exclusive art work, a ‘magic bucket’ or even a space trip, Taobao’s got you covered.
Obviously, this experience does not come cheap, but CEO of SXC, Michiel Mol, believes this factor will not deter the keen intergalatian who is living in the country harbouring the second most millionaires. In fact, she thinks these tours to the galactic gateway will become a “common tourism choice” in the next few years.
There are three astronaut programs on offer: Pioneer Astronaut, setting you back 599,999 yuan (96,000 USD), Founder Astronaut, 1.39 million yuan (221,760 USD) and Future Astronaut, 629,999 yuan (100,800 USD). The Pioneer programs are expected to become live in 2015, and provide the option of flying 61km high on a Lynx Mark I. Well, providing you pass all the red tape.
According to ecns:
People in good health over 18 years old, less than 2 meters in height and 125 kilograms in weight can apply for the space tour programs. But only after passing a medical exam and training programs can the applicants fly into space.
