“Friday the 13th – Xing Qi Woooooo” is slated as a shocking event featuring a full 13 hours of entertainment! Here’s what to expect: classic horror movies (Night of the Living Dead, Bride of Frankenstein, Chaney’s Phantom of the Opera), a pop-up from a rose tinted musical, a rock band appearance “2 minutes to midnight,” and more! Anniversary party @ Cafe des Stagiaires Dagu Road
Ben said it first, but here’s a reminder: Celebrate the first birthday of Cafe des Stagiaires’ Dagu Road branch from June 13-14! The festivities begin at 4.00 p.m. Friday and rage on until Saturday night. DMC Champion DJ Cavia will be spinning starting at 9pm on Friday and afterwards, buses will take everybody to CRAFT at around 2am. Saturday entails en anniversary brunch with a live band until 4pm.

Pride Run @ Shanghai
Join the annual PRIDE run on the way out of the closet and into the heart of the city! The run will encompass a round course of about 6 km and will start off at Xintiandi, with the Bund as the turning-point. The Langham, Xintiandi awards all runners to celebrate at the Pink BBQ for free. Non-runners are welcome to join the BBQ event.
Participant numbers are very limited, so please make sure to register via their Taobao store as soon as possible. For those who do not use Taobao, please email your name+number+email address to [email protected] Registration is now closed, but organizers say you can still get on the waiting list.
Runners receive a free goody bag, official T-shirt, individual certificate, as well as free entry to our tasty BBQ. Proceeds of the run will go to Chengdu Tongle, an institution that raises HIV awareness in Sichuan’s capital.

James Joyce and Ulysses celebration @ M on the Bund
Bloomsday, the celebration of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses, which chronicles the passage of a walk through Dublin on June 16, is celebrated in Shanghai with a walk through the city and stops and events along the way. The M on the Bund stop features readings of Ulysses on the terrace, followed by a literary afternoon tea featuring food from Davey Byrnes’ pub (mentioned in the book), with more readings and talks by prominent Joycean experts. ShanghaiPRIDE Identity Theater Series – Rendezvous @ Strictly Designers United
This year ShanghaiPRIDE theater focuses on the topic of IDENTITY. “Rendezvous” is a tragicomedy set in present-day Shanghai. Christie’s marriage to Julian has hit a major roadblock thanks to her inability to satisfy his desire to expand the family. As he pushes the issue and begins to lead a secret life, Christie continues her own double life. Sylvester, a charming stranger going through a major transition, enters Christie’s world hoping to be her man. A twist of fate will bring all three people together, calling into question their sense of identity, and their lives will never be the same again.
Written and directed by Jason Lasky, the play is in English with Chinese subtitles. There will be two screenings for this show: on June 15 and on June 20.

While running away from an unwanted female admirer, Irving runs right into Izzie. The two strangers become friends, fall in love and get married. A perfect “happily ever after” story for any young couple in 1980s of Shanghai until a mysterious phone call threatens to tear everything apart. To save her marriage and family, Izzie has no choice but to take some extreme measures.
“Izzie & Irving” is an original play written by Chinese playwright Sanyi especially for ShanghaiPRIDE 2014. English subtitles will be provided.
