Bottega: Opening on the heels of Austin Hu’s Union is Bottega, a joint venture by Hu and Kyeong Joo Lee, the ‘cheese wiz’ behind Solo Latte. This all-day venue looks to serve a standard medley of pizzas, pastas, and snacks, but with Hu and Lee at the helm, we can assume that it’ll be more than it says on paper. Especially with Lee creating cheeses specifically for the venue and making mozzarella on-site. None of that ‘jet-fresh’ nonsense. And if that wasn’t enough, cocktails will be provided by Hu’s Union partner, Yao Lu. Opening is slated for August, and if all goes well, we can expect the rare restaurant of substance to descend upon the glitz-encrusted bowels of Xintiandi.
Blue and Brown closed down?: Seeing as it’s durian season we recently popped by durian delicacy purveyor, Blue and Brown, to get a bite of one of their pungent pastries. Unfortunately, they appear to have shuttered. Alas, it looks like the legendary durian pizza is no more.
Gallo: Pizza Maven Enzo Carbone of Mammamia and Matto fame, is making a foray into chicken with Gallo, a new Yandang Lu spot serving everything from chicken shawarma to roast chicken (78RMB for half with one side, 148RMB for whole with two sides).
