“The Learned Ladies” by Molière @ The Pearl
Too much learning can be a ridiculous thing! Henriette wishes to marry Clitandre, and her father approves. However, her mother, the intellectual Philaminte, has another suitor in mind – the pretentious and pompous poet Trissotin! Add into this mix a jealous sister, a libidinous aunt, and a pedantic scholar, and you get Molière’s outrageous comedy of domestic bliss and intellectual chaos.
Molière’s witty and hilarious comedy both satirizes the intellectual salons of the 17th century and engages with many of the debates and intellectual questions that were arising from there.
