Celebrating its 5th edition in Shanghai this year, the French “Fête de la Musique” marks the midsummer weekend with a series of free musical acts and joie de vivre.
For three days, classical music, jazz, rock&roll, electro-pop, folk and DJ sets will be heard blaring from from all directions across Shanghai. IAM, Deluxe and BatPointG flew over from France for the occasion, supported by the French Embassy and the Alliance Française. All shows are free and open to everyone.
The main acts include:
IAM was created in 1985 in Marseille, under the name Lively Crew and is now without a doubt one of the most successful French rap groups. IAM does not separate style and content and develops texts elaborated with care and which cover topics such as life in the city and cultural diversity, and permanently switches between being serious and funny, with a focus on Egyptian, Chinese and Japanese civilizations. The group also enjoys playing with the meaning of its initials: in 2007, they originally stood for Imperial Asiatic Men.
Funk, electro, hip-hop, dubstep: Deluxe blends and catalyzes all styles to convey their essence on stage. A perfect mix of the great funky ensembles of yore and the electro flights of fancy of the last few years, Deluxe defies all styles and labels to offer live the full gamut of its influences and the richness of its productions!
Candyshop began in 2005 when bassist Chris and guitarist Nicholas met during a show. They decided to merge two school bands into one new band and Candyshop has been prowling universities in Shanghai eversince. Candyshop’s music style incorporates elements of hip-hop, metal, funk and punk with both male and female vocals. The band continues to explore the many permutations of rock music through challenging, original compositions.
FAR EAST LION‘s musical notes pay homage to Chinese melodies crossed over rap,hip hop and reggae lyrics amplified by DJ SHOHEI make masterful combination that sends a mystical melody feast into your ears. Created in 2009, JADO and SHOHEI came together from different backgrounds to formulate what has come to be by far the most compelling crew underground Shanghai the FAR EAST LION UNDERGROUND. Locally known as 遠東之獅, FAR EAST LION has been the synonymous with reggae styled music in Shanghai’s underground scene.
