Check out this shocking security footage of the axe attack at a Xinjiang chess hall this past Sunday (previously reported as a knife attack). [Warning: Viewer Discretion Advised]
In the picture above, you can see one of the assailants bringing out an axe and hitting the upper torso of the person sitting in front of him. Another attacker (in a white T-shirt, on the left side) is about to draw out his weapon and hit the woman facing the camera.
Reacting immediately to the attack, the chess players used chairs to protect themselves and drive the assailants out of the hall.
The three axe-wielding attackers ran outside the Jiaxin Chess Room minutes later.
They were closely followed by the victims who hunted them down with sticks and pipes.
Military and SWAT teams were later dispatched to the area.
Two attackers were killed (one of them is seen lying dead on the ground in the picture below) while the third suspect was arrested. It is unclear in the video whether the assailants were taken down by the police or the residents. Four other people were wounded.
Here is the entire video footage.
This assault comes after China’s trial of 55 criminals in Xinjiang stadium for terrorism and other crimes. The Chinese government has beefed up security in Beijing and other big cities in response to the Urumqi market attack last May. It is unknown whether the attacks were conducted by uyghur separatist groups, however.
