With the World Cup in full swing, soccer fans all over China have been staying up all night to watch the games, sometimes with fatal consequences. According to Apple Daily, a 51-year-old former celebrity in Dalian amateur football circles, Li Mingqiang, died suddenly whilst watching the Spain-Netherlands match with his friends after dinner last Friday night. His friends recalled that Li had been suffering from severe heart disease. While watching football, he suddenly appeared unwell, prompting his friends to make emergency call immediately. But it was too late.
Another 25-year-old man in Jiangsu was lao suspected of staying up late for World Cup. His family found him lay motionless in a bedroom yesterday morning, with the computer turned on. After an emergency rescue, he was also confirmed dead.
Doctors state that fans tend to be ‘over-excited’ while watching football contests, which is potentially dangerous for people having poor physical condition as they will be likely to suffer from angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and other diseases. What’s more, drinking too much will cause high blood pressure, bringing unexpected risks.
Doctors advise that fans should get their eyes and body relaxed from time to time like stretching their body while watching the games. Most importantly, they have to get adequate sleep so as not to become fatigued.
