Don’t try to comfort any pro-Beijing Hongkongers by saying the Occupy Central movement to demand universal suffrage “won’t be the end of the world”, because apparently they really do believe it will be.
A publicity video released yesterday by establishment advocacy group Silent Majority (so named because they champion a system whereby the majority of citizens ‘have no voice’) shows Hong Kong devolving into a state of violent anarchy mere hours after demonstrators arrive. If you thought former justice Minister Elsie Leung’s warning that Hong Kong could face a “colour revolution” a la post-Soviet Europe was a bit over the top, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
With some roads closed off in Central, the video predicts that every tunnel will be instantaneously sealed off by a literal mountain of buses and private vehicles, leaving millions of hapless residents “trapped”. Soon thereafter, the city begins burning to the ground as civil war breaks out on the streets. Swarms of riot police and looters do battle beneath a hail of bullets whilst flames lick the blackened glass facades of what was once Hong Kong’s Symphony of Lights—now but a symphony of horrors. When it comes to decimating Hong Kong, turns out the Kaiju have got nothing on Occupy Central with Love and Peace.
We can only assume that after six hours people will start resorting to cannibalism, and 10 hours in the inaugural Hunger Games commence.
