Construction of a new line linking Yangpu with Pudong is slated to begin next year, the Yangpu district government said.
The new line will connect Boashan and Yangpu districts to the Pudong New Area on a 36-kilometer route set to open in 2020. The line will include 26 stations and direct links to 14 other lines, Shanghai Daily reports. The new line is expected to be especially beneficial to students at Shanghai Fudan University and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
Starting from Changjiang Road South in Baoshan, the line will travel through Yangpu, under the Huangpu River into Pudong and on to Hangtou Station via the towns of Yuqiao and Zhoupu.
Elsewhere in Yangpu, construction of the Zhoujiazui Road tunnel will also start soon, the district government said.
The 4.6km project will link Zhoujiazui and Neijiang roads to Dongjing and Zhangyang roads in Pudong, it said.
In other news, 35 new trains will be going into service on Metro lines 3 and four over the next two years and will inexplicably include interior light detectors that adjust the carriage lighting to surroundings.
There you have it.
