This past Sunday afternoon, a man, surnamed Lu, spotted a 1.3 meter long, 35-kilo snapping turtle near the Changjiang River. Displaying balls of titanium, Lu captured the reptile and dragged it to a police station. The police identified it as a South American snapping turtle, China News says. Onlookers claimed the turtle was released into the river by four people days ago.
The police gave the snapping turtle to Wuhan Zoo. According to zoologist, this type of snapping turtle is usually kept as a pet, and that this particular must have been kept for more than 10 years. He also stated that releasing it into the wild was irresponsible as it’s an alien species.
Perhaps, keeping snapping turtle as a pet isn’t a good idea either. Just look at this Fujian man , who was hospitalized after receiving a passionate ‘kiss’ on the lips from his pet snapper.
