Police in Luizhou, Henan Province, delivered a warning to a man surnamed Liu last Tuesday after he posted a flyer in a hospital bathroom requesting a desire to swap his baby boy with a girl.
According to Ecns.cn:
Liu, 34, told police that he and his wife, already the parents of an 11-year-old son, wanted to have a girl. He explained that his wife, surnamed Zhu, had an abortion after an ultrasound revealed they would have a second boy.
After becoming pregnant again with a third son, Zhu decided to keep him.
With the baby’s due date closely approaching, Liu and his family decided to exchange their unborn son for a girl.
Liu then posted the incriminating ad in a local hospital bathroom, complete with his contact number.
Then Sherlock Homes got in the way. An unknown reporter pretended to be interested in the offer. Liu arranged for the switch to be made at the same hospital, demanded no money and requested that contact be ended after the deal. The mysterious detective then called the police.
Liu said to the Chinese authorities he and his wife weren’t aware that “baby swapping” was illegal. No shit. They nonetheless promise to take care of their newborn baby, and hey, he seems a man who’s good on his word.
