A woman in Kunming, Yunnan province allegedly burned her husband’s mistress to death on the street by splashing her gasoline and setting her aflame before attempting to commit suicide.
On Friday evening, the suspect, surnamed Shi, reportedly killed the mistress by setting her alight immediately after splashing gasoline on her outside of a teahouse on the street. The woman said that the mistress forced her to get divorce.
Camera footage showed the woman burning on the street as she let out ‘awful screams’. She then collapsed and died on the spot. The dead body was found to be burned black and unidentifiable. After the attack, Shi drank pesticide and cut herself with a knife. She was then sent to the hospital.
According to the owner of the teahouse, Shi, dressed in all black, was trailing behind the mistress while carrying a red bucket. When they arrived at the door front of the tea house, Shi asked the mistress: “Was that you who hooked up with my husband?”
Without any response from the mistress, Shi sprayed paprika on her. She then ran to take a white bucket from the opposite street and splashed the mistress with gasoline before igniting her with fire. The mistress was said to be engulfed in flames three to four meters high. Shi ran away quickly and drank some pesticide which, causing her to foam at the mouth. The entire attack was filmed by an event data recorder of a car that passed by.
While she was taken to the ambulance, shi reportedly kept murmuring: “It’s meaningless for me to live alone. I don’t want to live.”
It was reported that Shi worked in a hotel before and her husband was a bus driver. They had a daughter together who would enter the university this year. Their relationship had apparently gotten rocky about a year ago, when the mistress entered the scene.
Shi is still in a serious condition in the hospital as police continue to investigate the attack.
