A video, posted Sunday, of a blonde man beating up a Mongolian-born Spaniard he apparently thought was Chinese on the Barcelona metro has lit up the internet, garnering almost 900,000 views as of this afternoon. Not all the info has been verified, but the aggressor, an alleged Russian man, has since been detained for what’s been deemed a “racially-motivated attack.”
In the above clip, you can see the aggressor (black shirt) involved in a verbal altercation with the Mongolian man, who is seated.
The attacker then unleashes a barrage of punches to the seated victim’s face and torso.
Passengers intervene, dragging the aggressor away.
The video was reportedly first uploaded to the Twitter account of the man who shot the video, which displayed Nazi motifs and the slogan: “Always a patriot, white Europe.” It was later taken down.
The same camera man, who was reportedly in cahoots with the aggressor, tweeted: “The Chinese guy insulted us and the Russian (attacker) made him shut up.”
Another tweet read: “@6sonya said that he (the victim) said to us we weren’t Chinese and was giving us filthy looks.”
Thankfully, most of the reactions were sympathetic to the victim. Said Barcelona city hall: “We want to make it clear that attitudes like this are not acceptable in our city.”
