A fugitive who returned to Shanghai to surprise his girlfriend with 99 roses in his hand was detained at Hongqiao Railway Station after the bountiful bouquet caught the police’s attention.
The man, surnamed Li, took a train from Xuzhou and arrived in Shanghai around 10 p.m. Strutting through the station with the bushy red boquet, Li became the object of someone else’s attention: cops. The railway police asked for Li’s ID and confirmed that he was, in fact, a fugitive.
Shanghai Daily reports:
Police said Li was a Shanghai local and worked in Xuzhou City in neighboring Jiangsu Province. He was wanted by Jiangsu police in connection with forged value-added tax invoices. Li admitted forging invoices, but said he had no idea that he was wanted by police. He said he was in steady relationship with his girlfriend and had just returned to Shanghai to give her a surprise with the bouquet of roses.
