A young man from Sichuan diagnosed with leukemia knelt down outside of a building in Chengdu along with 14 of his classmates and dozens upon dozens of roses on June 30 asking to borrow one million RMB from the director of an enterprise to treat his illness.
The students were holding roses with a sign that read “Lend me 1 million and I will pay it back by working hard for you” displayed on the street.
According to China News, the 24-year-old, surnamed Mo, is a university student living in Sichuan. His mother committed suicide when he was just several months old and his father was mentally ill. He was adopted by a couple who has been raising and supporting him until he started studying at university.
He said that his family no longer can afford further medical treatment after spending more than 100,000 RMB on previous treatment. Encouraged by a netizen who suggested that he borrow money from a rich person, Mo knelt down while offering flowers with his classmates and requested for a loan from the chairman of an agribusiness enterprise, as he also majored in agriculture-and-domestication-related studies.
According to a doctor in Sichuan, Mo has gone through six rounds of medical treatments. Bone marrow transplant is the best treatment for him now, although it’s incredibly expensive.
Mo has reportedly suspended his university studies.
