A portion of a delegation of 27 Zimbabwean MPs is currently trapped in Guangdong province until the 10th of July, according to Newsday. The reason? They’re left penniless after running up their credit cards in a shopping spree.
The delegation came to promote Zimbabwe’s
“Buy East” “Look East” policy in Beijing but some MPs unofficially decided to go shopping in Guangdong Province.
“We tried to persuade them not to travel to Guangdong as it is very far and they did not have enough money, but they did not listen,” one of the MPs said.
Not only did they run out of money but they also didn’t make it on time to their flight back home. To make matters worse, they were supposed to head home with Air Zimbabwe and the next flight from Beijing to Harare isn’t until July 10.
The good thing is that they’ll have direct customer services if there is any problem with their purchases since they’re on the spot.
On top of that, the Zimbabwe parliament doesn’t really give a shit about them since it convened without the 27 missing MPs yesterday. He who is missing doesn’t get the vote!
