A 26-year-old woman from Sichuan who insisted on stitching together 1,000 dolls rather than just ask for donations as a way to raise funds to cure her cancer passed away peacefully on June 30.
After just being married for only a month in October 2012, Zhou Jie was diagnosed with colon cancer. Even though she had spent all her family’s money curing her illness, she didn’t turn to donations. Instead, she made dolls on her own and sold them online to raise funds herself.
Her story then went viral on social media. Touched by her positive attitude and perseverance, many people supported her by placing orders and purchasing her dolls, as well as encouraging her to stay strong. She was even dubbed the “Doll Girl”.
Just when Zhou was on the verge of falling into a coma, she still kept making the dolls in an attempt to thank the buyers for their support.
Her family said that Zhou had nothing to regret when she passed away peacefully, as her dream of making those 1,000 dolls had come true with the help of her family and netizens.
Her love is now still spreading as she had agreed upon organ donation.
