Just in case you didn’t think the smartphone craze was ridiculous enough, a woman who was visiting her daughter in Wuhan, left shortly after because the 46-year-old little empress and her daughter snubbed her in favor of playing smartphone games, reports Chinanews.
The daughter, surnamed Zhu, had reportedly just learned how to use Wechat from her daughter, and liked to chat with colleagues and friends via Wechat Voice every day.
The shenanigans started when Mrs Zhu’s 72-year-old mother Mrs Cheng visited one day. When Mrs Cheng attempted to have a normal, ‘non-We’ chat with her daughter and granddaughter after dinner, they ignored her to play with their phones. Irritated by the snubbing, Mrs Cheng left for her hometown while Mrs Zhu was at work.
Mrs Zhu later received a phone call from her father, who told her that her neglected mother was (rightfully) upset. Mrs Zhu and her daughter phoned Mrs Cheng immediately to apologize.
Mrs Zhu had also posted warnings on her daughter and granddaughter’s doors, which read “no playing with phone after work, chat with old people more”. Mrs Zhu said she would travel to Wuhan to stay with her mother for a few days.
Good to know that Mrs Zhu and her family have learnt their lesson. Technology surely is a double-edged sword. Phone-snubbing can even prove quite dangerous, like in the case of a this mother in Anhui who was so distracted by her phone game that she forgot her son on a train. And last year, a teen girl died because her cellphone distracted her from the bad road conditions.
