A Nanjing woman was revolted to find that over 200 parasites inhabited her eyelashes, a result of her habit of sleeping together with her two dogs day after day. And we all know the old saying, “you lay down with dogs, you wake up with ocular parasites” (wait…)
The dog owner, surnamed Lin, first experienced itchy eyes. She initially thought it was eye inflammation, so she used eyedrops, but they were ineffective.
She later went to see a doctor, who told her that there was was parasite dwelling on every one of her eyelashes.
According to the report, Lin had a close relationship with her two dogs and always slept with them. Her dogs reportedly caught the infection from other dogs in the park when Lin walked them.
Fortunately, the dog lover was treated promptly before the parasites were able to cause real harm to her eye. All her eyelashes, however, had to be cut off – an even worse fate, we imagine, for some Chinese women.
The doctor treated Lin by soaking her eyelashes in a saline solution, and then picking out each parasite with forceps – a process that took more than two hours. Her hair had to be disinfected as well.
One ophthalmologist suggested that dog owners should not allow pets in the bedroom.
In other “eye-eating-parasite” news, last week a Taiwan woman had her corneas nibbled out by amoebae after she re-used the same pair of contact lenses for half a year.
