It’s happened. Guo Meimei, the Hunan-born 22-year-old who’s linked to a massive 2011 Red Cross scandal and is notorious for flaunting her wealth (and laowai boyfriend), was arrested in Beijing for World Cup gambling.
Since the kick-off of the World Cup, Guo has generously informed the public via social media of her engagement in the matches, telling followers that she’s stayed up to watch most of the games.
Last month, she uploaded a picture online showing one of her lottery tickets, writing: “It’s a little bet to test my luck and see if it’s true that the more beautiful one looks, the more fortunate one will be”. She also claimed that she frequently “loses big”.
Guo is reportedly very passionate about gambling. Previous gambling scandals in Macau resulting in huge debts were also exposed amid her recent arrest. According to the report, Guo once owed as much as 260 million dollars in gambling debts, but half of the amount was settled by her new “backup”, who supported her financially.
After investigation by Beijing police, an online football gambling gang was seized yesterday. Guo, who was involved in the ring, was arrested at the scene.
Just another chapter in the (unfortunately pending) movie that is Guo’s life.
