An overloaded lift inside a supermarket in Anhui loaded with 10 people and commodities plummeted suddenly to the ground floor, leaving shoppers trapped inside it for more than half an hour. Aaaand childhood fear of elevators: restored.
On Monday, 10 passengers with arms full of goods got on the lift in a supermarket in Anhui’s Anqing. The doors closed and the overloaded elevator dropped suddenly to the bottom. The lift was stuck at the exit on the first floor and passengers trapped inside the dark stuffy area of three square meters were left waiting for nearly an hour, causing one middle-aged woman to faint.
Firemen rushed to the site and rescued passengers from the lift. As the exit was fully blocked with loads of cardboard boxes and various supermarket obstructions, firemen had to clear a narrow walkway and used a crowbar to pry the lift open.
The passengers were finally rescued through a narrow walkway after being trapped for 40 minutes. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but we assume they’ll be taking the stairs for a while.
