Guangxi’s chengguan officers, China’s highly unpopular urban law enforcement officials, have likewise decided to take the less brutal approach when dealing with illegal street vendors in the area by installing several red and white coloured traffic bollards on the sidewalks to keep them from setting up shop.
The bollards were seen clustered around busy areas on South Sichuan Road and Gui Dong Road in Beihai where vendors commonly set up barbecue stands.
Passers-by and netizens likened the groups of preventative bollards to “Mei Hua Zhuang”, used by people practicing Chinese boxing.
Could this trend lead to the end of China’s delicious sizzling street meat? We have a feeling they’ll find a way around it. They always do.
