Thousands of villagers and tourists gathered in the Rongshui county of Guangxi’s Liuzhou city yesterday to release and catch over 100 kilos of fish in the local Liangshuang river as part of an annual festival.
July 12 marks Liuzhou’s traditional Naoyu festival, celebrating the plentiful harvest with a tradition that boasts a 450-year-long history. During the event, one hundred kilos of fish representing good fortune are thrown and scattered about the Liangshuang river by the organizers, attracting thousands of villagers and tourists to grab them and splash around in the water to cool down on the hot summer day.
It certainly looks more fun than playing mahjong in the swimming pool.
