Police on Friday tracked down a man in Hubei province suspected of hiring students to sit the gaokao, China’s painfully difficult college entrance exams, for other test-takers who just couldn’t take the pressure.
Zhang Xuanli and another agent are believed to have hired 11 college students to replace test-takers in the Qixian and Togxu counties of Henan province on June 6 and 7.
According to Xinhua, the students who used fill-ins had their exams canceled and have been barred from taking the test for the next three years. Ten parents who paid for the substitutes were demoted from government posts, and 13 government workers and teachers were canned for taking part in the scam.
